Hosted by Paul G. Mahoney VFW Post 4372, the event served not only as entertainment but as a public tribute to those who have worn the uniform. From bull riding to barrel racing, mutton busting to team roping, the competition was fierce, but the camaraderie and shared bond of service were even stronger.
"This rodeo was our salute to those who’ve given so much,” said Post Commander Rick Mitchell. "Seeing Veterans and active-duty members competing in the arena reminds us all that strength and courage extends far beyond the battlefield.”
The event was made possible through the incredible generosity of Phillips 66, the title sponsor, whose substantial donation covered all event costs, ensuring the rodeo was a success. Thanks to their support, and that of many other local sponsors, all proceeds and donations from the event went directly to programs that support Veterans.
Throughout the day, the stands were filled with families, children enjoying rodeo festivities, and Veterans receiving the recognition they so deeply deserve. Special moments included patriotic tributes, flag presentations, and heartfelt acknowledgments between each event from a professional announcer, Jimmy B. Bear Armendarez.
"We were honored to be part of something so meaningful,” said a Phillips 66 representative. "These men and women have served our country with courage, and this rodeo was a chance to give back in a way that reflects our West Texas roots.”
The success of the Veteran Rodeo has inspired organizers to begin planning next year’s event, aiming to grow the tradition while continuing to spotlight the strength, resilience, and unity of those who serve. Scheduled April 17th and 18th, 2026.
Because in Odessa, we don’t just thank our Veterans, we ride with them.
